Internship assignments at GeMMe

The GeMMe team welcomes a large number of students on internships or final year projects, from a variety of disciplines (chemistry, geology, georesources, mining, mechanics, electromechanics, etc.) and from different courses of study (bachelor, master, engineer).

Chemistry, biochemistry or biotechnology

The main tasks of the trainee or student working on a final year project in chemistry, biochemistry or biotechnology will be as follows:

• Preparation of samples for chemical analysis: the student will be involved in all stages, from sampling to grinding, including loss on ignition. This work will contribute directly to the quality of the laboratory's analyses;
• Chemical analysis: the student will have the chance to carry out chemical analyses, ranging from acid digestion to alkaline fusion. This is a unique opportunity to apply their knowledge of chemistry in a practical context;
• Use of measuring instruments available in the laboratory: with the help of the team, the student will learn to use a range of cutting-edge instruments such as ICP-AES, AAS, XRF and infrared carbon-sulfur analyzers, providing a wealth of experience for a future career in this field;
• Drafting of analysis reports;
• Contribution to the development of existing analytical protocols and procedures.

Civil Engineering, Mechanics, Electromechanics, Robotics

Sensor-based Sorting lab specializes in developing cutting-edge solutions for matter characterization and scrap sorting. The lab’s primary tool is the PICKIT machine, which was built by the team for testing industrial applications. This system is currently used in production and can sort up to 20 000 tons of waste annually. While the achieved performance is already competitive in the field, we are continually striving to reach better metrics and tackle new challenges from the recycling industry. Your assistance could be essential in achieving this goal and making a direct impact on European recyclability.
